Betterspace – Redesigning a wellbeing platform
Challenge
Betterspace is a mental well-being platform and workplace marketplace. With Betterspace, employees have access to hundreds of resources, products, and services to support and safeguard their well-being; for example yoga classes or meditation apps. It is a one-stop shop for everything that promotes a healthy mind and body.
Statistics show that 1 in 6 people experience mental health issues in the workplace, and more than 1 in 10 people have resigned from a job due to stress (source: mentalhealth.org.uk).
When Betterspace initially launched their minimum viable product, it faced usability issues, lacked clear information architecture, and had poor visual design.
My role was to elevate the platform to the next level and increase user satisfaction and engagement. I accomplished this through the use of usability testing, UI audits, workshops, prototyping, and visual and UI design.
Approach
To gain a deeper understanding of the problem space, we embarked on a discovery phase. This involved conducting usability testing and interviews with ten mixed-age professionals, who represented our main target audience. Additionally, we conducted competitor analysis, examining features and branding, which served as inspiration for the final design.
With the research findings in mind, I facilitated a workshop with the CEO, CTO, Engineers, and Sales team with the objective of generating ideas and aligning the team on a new vision for the product.
From the workshop, two key areas of focus emerged. First, we decided to create a new personalized dashboard to enhance the user experience. Second, we aimed to improve the navigation and discoverability of the product.
Taking these decisions into account, I undertook independent ideation, built prototypes, and iterated on the ideas based on feedback from the team and guerrilla usability tests.

Solution
The new dashboard was personalised to each user based on their well-being assessment. We provided feedback with a graph showing key areas of their well-being: sleep, social connections, exercise, helping others, stress, and meaningful activities.
Based on this; we provided personalised recommendation to the user. In addition, we enhanced usability by implementing a more conventional navigation system, e-commerce layout, and product pages.
Ultimately, we created a more intuitive, inspiring and personalised experience for users as they navigate through the platform.

Outcome
We observed a significant increase in customer engagement, with a higher number of users discovering and purchasing well-being products. In addition, positive feedback was received from both customers and clients.
Testimonial
"A big thanks to the team for doing such a good job. We are really impressed with the dashboard design and how you have built a personalised journey into the experience.”
